Modeled after the Vietnam Service Medal, this ring features sand from a UH-1 Huey crash site in Vietnam, and a stripe of red and yellow color pigment inlaid in a dark green ceramic band.
Some backstory on this piece: My grandfather served in Korea and Vietnam. He was a Huey pilot during his time in Vietnam and after I joined the military he shared a few stories with me regarding his time in country, they always involved him flying Huey's. He loved being a helicopter pilot so much he continued flying off and on after he left the service. He unfortunately passed away in 2017, and exactly three years later, I made my first ring. It took five years and a very good Veteran friend of mine to get this sand in my shop so I could make this memorial ring for my Grandfather, and now I am happy to make it available for purchase in the hopes that it will lead to stories being told and memories being made.
